The Stomach & Spleen
The Hidden Cause of Cavities

Last week, we explored the Kidneys and mineral balance, uncovering why your body, not just your diet, determines the strength of your teeth. But minerals alone aren’t enough. Your body must absorb and use them effectively.
This week, we shift to the Earth element, focusing on the Stomach and Spleen—the foundation of digestion and nutrient assimilation.
I see this pattern all the time. People come to me doing everything “right,” eating a nutrient-dense diet, taking all the right supplements, and using the cleanest oral care products, yet they still struggle with cavities and weak enamel. They’ve been told their teeth are “genetic” or that they must be missing some magic supplement. But what’s actually happening?
The real question isn’t just what nutrients you’re consuming. It’s whether your body can actually absorb and use them.
This is the foundation of Heal Teeth Naturally—not just treating symptoms but getting to the root of why your teeth are breaking down and how to restore balance.
What Really Causes Cavities?
For decades, we’ve been told cavities are all about sugar and hygiene. But if that were the full story, why do some people who eat sugar never get cavities, while others who eat perfectly and brush religiously still struggle?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), oral health is deeply connected to digestion. The Stomach and Spleen are responsible for transforming food into vital energy and nutrients. If these organs are weakened, stagnated, or overburdened, your body can’t extract the minerals needed to remineralize your teeth.
Digestion & Cavities: The Connection No One Talks About
Weak digestion means weak teeth. If your Stomach and Spleen aren’t functioning properly, your body can’t break down food efficiently or extract the minerals necessary to strengthen enamel.
Absorption matters more than intake. You can eat all the raw dairy, grass-fed butter, and bone broth you want, but if your digestion is impaired, those minerals won’t reach your teeth.
Your gut microbiome affects your oral microbiome. If digestion is weak, gut bacteria become imbalanced, leading to chronic acidity, inflammation, and an environment that encourages cavities.
Stress weakens the Spleen. In TCM, overthinking, worry, and emotional stress directly impact digestion, making it harder for your body to assimilate nutrients and maintain mineral balance.
Healing Cavities Starts with Strengthening Digestion
If you’re eating well, supplementing correctly, and still struggling, it’s time to shift the focus.
Are you actually absorbing the nutrients you consume?
Is your digestion strong, or is it inflamed and overburdened?
Is your gut microbiome supporting your oral health or contributing to decay?
Are your eating habits, like rushed meals, stress, or cold/raw foods, weakening your Spleen?
TCM and modern nutritional wisdom both emphasize that strong digestion is the key to strong bones and teeth. Healing cavities isn’t just about adding more minerals. It’s about creating the right conditions for your body to use them.
This is exactly what I focus on in Heal Teeth Naturally, guiding you to restore the deep, foundational processes that allow your body to heal.
This week, I’m resharing from my blog archives: What Causes a Cavity? This post dives deeper into why cavities are more than just sugar and brushing, and how digestion plays a critical role in oral health.
Your teeth are a reflection of what’s happening inside your body. Healing isn’t just about what you eat. It’s about how well your body can use it. By strengthening digestion and supporting your Stomach and Spleen, you create the foundation for true, lasting oral health.
